The College of Business and Law held its annual Scholarship and Prizes Award Ceremony on Thursday, 14th March in Devere Hall, Áras na MacLéinn Student Centre.  The event is a special occasion at which the College celebrates the personal and academic achievements of its students.  Prizes and Scholarships are awarded from the College and University, as well as from sponsors, partners and donors, whose generosity the College gratefully acknowledges.

Head of College Professor Thia Hennessy welcomed students, their families and guests to the event, at which she was joined by Professor Mark Poustie, Dean of the School of Law, and by Professor Anthony McDonnell, Interim Dean of Cork University Business School (CUBS), as well as by many College faculty and staff members.

Professor Poustie and Professor McDonnell spoke about developments in the School of Law and in CUBS, respectively.  Prizes were then presented to the student recipients.

Several College students also addressed the audience.  Quercus University Scholar Amergin Quinlan (BCL Law and Irish) spoke in Irish and English about his experience as a student in the College, including his involvement in the launch of an Irish language legal podcast called Inter Alia.

Sarah Lisson (BComm IV) spoke about her experience as part of the UCC CUBS team participating in the Heavener International Case Competition in February 2024 at the University of Florida.

Alex Linehan (BComm IV) spoke about being a member of the UCC CUBS team participating in the John Molson Undergraduate Case Competition at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada in February 2024.  The team reached the finals, placing fourth, with Alex placing as Runner Up Best Speaker.

Rose Cotter (BCL International IV) addressed the audience about participating in the School of Law's  Annual Gala Moot Court on 11 March 2024 in the Washington Street Courthouse before the Hon Justice Miriam O'Regan. Rose received the James D Donegan Prize for outstanding speaker at the Moot.

Musicians Ruby Falvey and Gobnait Kiely, both music students at UCC, performed at the ceremony, and at the reception afterwards.

Professor Hennessy closed the event by thanking all for attending and participating, and thanked Frances Coyne of the College office in particular for her efforts in organising the event.
